Three armed robbers remanded in custody

Kumasi, March 17, GNA-A Kumasi circuit court on Wednesday remanded three people into police custody for alleged armed robbery.

Kwabena Frimpong, Francis Iwiju, alias ‘Chika’ and Eric Sarpong who pleaded guilty to the charge of robbery would re-appear on March 30.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector J.K. Afful told the court presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh that Frimpong and an unidentified robber, now deceased boarded the taxicab of the complainant, Mr Ibrahim Boateng from TUC to Ahodwo in the Kumasi Metropolis.

He said soon after boarding the taxi, Frimpong and his accomplice pulled a gun and a knife at the complainant and ordered him to stop. Chief Inspector Afful said the complainant resisted but was assaulted and pulled out of the taxi by the accused person and his accomplice and sped off.

He said the complainant made a report to the Asokwa police leading to the pursuit and exchange of fire between the police and the robbers leading to the death of Frimpong’s accomplice.

Chief Inspector Afful said the taxi run into a gutter thereby making it possible for the police to apprehend the accused. He said Frimpong mentioned two members of his gang and led the police to arrest them.
