Facing a stiff competition from NPP and NDC, Independent Peoples Party (IPP) kicked off its 2012 campaign with a fund raiser with the theme “Putting People’s Lives First through Technology’ in Atlanta Georgia, USA.
The campaign which will officially begin in May with the launching of the party in Accra Ghana has gathered a considerable steam abroad especially among Ghanaian communities. Kofi Akpaloo who has long decried the role big money plays in Ghanaian politics is poised to change the dynamics of the Ghanaian political landscape in 2012 general election. He declared ‘We will win this election because Ghanaians are tired and fed up with the old same political machines who have taken the people for a ride. He said Ghanaians have been neglected for too long, and the grassroots are up in arms demanding for a real change. Our communities are deprived of development because the MPs only stay in the capital until the next elections to show up in their constituencies for re-election. IPP campaign will reach out to a broad group of young potential contributors, including an aggressive use of Face book, Twitter, ippghana.com and other social media platforms. Akpaloo pointed out the role a smaller contributor can play in the 2012 elections. We are presenting a clear choice to the disgruntled Ghanaian electorate Akpaloo said. He told Ghanaians who attended the fundraiser we can get Ghana where it is suppose to be and get our fiscal house in order. IPP intend to transform people’s lives through technology, with that said IPP movement is to embrace the 21 century technology tools to enhance lives and will rely heavily on the power of the Internet in their fund-raising programs, reaching Ghanaians everywhere and above all using it as our communication tool, and we are confident the results will be positive.
Mr. Kwadwo Asare the Media & Communications director on his part said the campaign will also rely on e-mail solicitations, online advertisement on social networking sites, grassroots campaign and the parties’ own online website. During questions and answers session, Mr. Kwame Atakora the National Organizer of IPP passionately urge and challenge Ghanaians to have the courage to break away from the colonial blue print of doing things and join the practical, innovated, motivated and highly committed team who has the political will to move the country forward.
Mr. Atakora took the opportunity to appealed to Ghanaians in the diaspora about the urgency of the time, he said IPP should not be seen as another political party but a movement that seeks to bring real change to all levels of government to help improve lives in Ghana. He said we as Ghanaians livening in Diaspora are morally obligated to help ease the pressure of poverty on our people, our families back home needs us urgently, and the human capital we have acquired over the years here is the key contribution that is going to make the dream of better Ghana comes true.
