Thirty Three Ghanaian Students Return From Cuba

Accra, Sept. 3 Thirty-three Ghanaian students who have completed their studies at various universities in Havana, Cuba, have returned home. They were accompanied by the deputy minister of education, Mr Kwabena Kyere, who led a three man technical committee to Cuba to bring the students back home. The other members were Mr Kwaku Baah and Mr Godwin Odoom. Mr Kyere told newsmen that the 33 students completed their courses in General Medicine, Civil Engineering, Veterinary Medicine, Chemical Engineering, Radiography, Agronomy and Dentistry. He said the technical committee left Accra a week ago to interact with the students and to study their problems. More than 0 Ghanaians are studying in Cuba under a protocol agreement. Mr Kyere said according to the Cuban authorities, among the many foreign nationals studying in Cuba, Ghanaians excel in both academic and extra- curicula activities. The graduates will do a two-year national service after which some of them will be absorbed into the public sector while others will have to be employed by private entrepreneurs. Also on board the flight were 32 Cuban medical personnel who will be attached to the Health Ministry for two years. Mr Juan Carretero, Cuban Ambassador in Ghana, who met them on arrival, said the scholarship programme is in line with Cuban assistance to friendly countries.
