The Muslim Relief Agency of Ghana (MURAG) has granted scholarship to thirty-one girls in basic schools in the Gomoa District.
The beneficiaries from nine communities including orphans, abandoned children and those from large families were also presented with uniforms, bags, books and stationery. Under the scheme their school levies and examination papers printing fees would be catered for.
Speaking to the GNA at Apam on Friday, Miss Teresa Paidoo, District Girl-Child Education Officer, commended MURAG for supporting the girls. She said, “there are more of such needy girls in the communities” and appealed to MURAG and other organisations to extend their services.
Miss Paidoo said such schemes were important since they afforded girls who otherwise would have been marginalized, an opportunity to acquire education to enable them contribute their quota to national development. Parents of some of the beneficiaries thanked MURAG for the assistance and promised to ensure that their children studied hard to justify the scholarship.
