There is nothing unchristian about politics

Kumasi, April 24, 2008, GNA – An official at the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) on Thursday appealed to Christians to consider participating actively in politics since there is nothing wrong with their involvement.

“Politics simply means planning and managing the affairs of people as well as serving them in order to make their lives better.”

Mr. Peter Hastings Mensah, Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of NCCE, said this in Kumasi on Tuesday in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.

He said most Christians do not show interest in political issues until there is a problem.

Mr Mensah said, for instance, Seventh Day Adventists voted on a Saturday when they needed a change of government, adding that Christians should not act when it is only in their interest.

He appealed to Christians who only take delight in criticising their political leaders to stop and make their contributions towards the nation’s growth. Mr Mensah urged Christians to exercise their franchise in the upcoming elections which falls on a Sunday, saying voting is a right and responsibility of every citizen.
