There is no tension in NPP’s flagbearership race…NPP’s Nana Obiri Boahene

Nana Obiri Boahene, former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has downplayed the existence of tension within the party’s flagbearership race.

Obiri Boahene questioned the notion of tension, stating, “What is that tension they are talking about and its meaning? There’s no tension. There’s no boxing nor any competition of such kind in the party, so what tension are they talking about?”

Obiri Boahene attributed the perceived tension to normal divergences of views within human institutions. “As a normal human institution, there will surely be divergence of views, which is normal for some people to raise their voices, others may speak in anger, and others may refrain from engaging others,” he explained.

He drew a biblical analogy, referencing the separation of Lucifer and Angel Michael, questioning whether this would be classified as tension.

“Even in heaven, at a point Lucifer and Angle Micheal had to separate, but will you say that was tension in heaven” he queried.

According to Obiri Boahene, the current dynamics within the NPP are not unique to politics and shouldn’t be sensationalized. He cited the example of Elon Musk, who played a significant role in Trump’s winning but later had issues with the Trump administration.

“These things are normal in every human institution and shouldn’t be blown out of proportion,” he added.

As the NPP gears up for its presidential primaries, slated for January 31, 2026, anticipation is building both within the party and across the national political landscape.

several aspirants vying for the party’s flagbearership position, including Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Dr. Bryan Acheampong.

The primary will mark a pivotal moment for the NPP as it seeks to elect a flagbearer capable of steering the party into the 2028 general elections, building upon its legacy.

These aspirants, representing a mix of experiences, youthfulness, and political capital, are expected to engage in rigorous campaigns to win the support of delegates and grassroots members.
