There is no disunity among security services in Volta Region

Ho, Oct. 27, GNA – Lt-Col Abass Seidu, the Commanding Officer of the 66 Artillery Regiment (Volta Barracks), has said it was not true that there was disunity among security services in the Volta Region. He said “some little differences” were to be expected but his could not represent disunity and that the services were working together, just as before, to ensure peace and security in the region. Lt. Col. Seidu said this at a lunch with Heads of Security Services in the region to welcome five newly commissioned military officers posted to the 66 Artillery Regiment. “We are friends. We meet formally and informally to discuss security and social issues, as you can see, and cannot be at war,” he said.

Togbe Amenya Fiti, Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, had alleged that disunity among security agencies operating in Aflao area slowed their response to the recent riots in the border area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police David Nenyi Ampah-Bennin, the Volta Regional Police Commander, said that perception was far from the truth. Mr Ebenezer Mensah Acquaah, the Assistant Director in charge of the Ghana Immigration Service in the Region, said the swift response of the security services to stem the riots and protect life and property was evidence of cooperation among them.

Mr Alex Martels Hughes, Volta Regional Chief Fire Officer, said “little differences” should not be blown out of proportion and urged the media to be circumspect in its reportage on security issues. Colonel Cyril Necku (RTD), the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, said there was no break in the front of security services in the region and that the report did not reflect the situation on the ground. 27 Oct. 10
