The Vice President of General Electric (GE), who is responsible for corporate citizenship, Mr Bob Corcoran, says there is no corruption in Ghana as some would want the whole world to believe.
He said, even if there is corruption in Ghana the level is within acceptable and manageable limits as compared to the level of corruption in other African countries. It is for this reason, Mr Corocoran added, that GE decided to donate various equipment to some selected hospitals across the country to the time of over $5 million.
The GE Vice President said, this in Kumasi yesterday at a ceremony marking the commissioning and official handing over of some installed equipment to the authorities of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) at the forecourt of the Oncology Directorate in the hospital.
Mr Corcoran, who is also the President of the GE Foundation, said, Ghanaians should be proud of themselves and their achievements so far as far as fighting corruption is concerned because it is one of the countries in Africa where corruption is least recorded.
In a chat with journalists shortly after a press briefing the GE Vice President explained that, he could say so taking into consideration the list of corrupt countries compiled by the UN affiliated, Transparency International which ranked Ghana among the nations where corruption is scarcely seen.
He however stated that there could be incidents of corruption but on the whole the spate and level is marginal compared to what pertains in many places. Supporting his claim further, Mr corocoran also said, in their dealings with Ghanaians in their bid to donate equipment to the selected hospitals there was not point that any official demanded anything from anybody neither was any official seen trying to cheat in the process.
This is commendable because it is quite different from what pertains in some African countries, he observed adding, if that had happened GES would have discontinued its decision to invest in Ghana.
