There is no ‘Big SIX’ in the history of Ghana – Bernard Mornah

The General Secretary of People’s National Convention (PNC), Mr. Bernard Mornah, says the man that gave revolutionary push to our attainment of independence is the ‘BIG ONE’, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

He says there can never be what is called the ‘big six’, noting that if the big six is attributable to our struggle for independence, where were they on the Independence Day.

“Were they not the same people who went out to preach that we were not matured enough to become independent. How could they constitute the people who said they were fighting for our liberation,” he quizzed.

Mr. Mornah scolds claims made by people that they brought Nkrumah into the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) and that he (Nkrumah) was an opportunist.

He says having seen the extraordinary qualities of mobilisation in Nkrumah, the then UGCC had wanted to exploit him.

The General Secretary discloses that when Nkrumah came, there were only two branches of the party, one in Secondi and the other in Accra, adding that the party was looking for reforms, and not independence for our nation.

He further says that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah had developed 60 branches of UGCC across the country within one year. “In less than two years after breaking away from the UGCC, he formed one of the formidable political parties that won elections in this country,” he adds.

He said we as a country cannot remember the founder just by the infrastructure he left behind, but encouraged all Ghanaians to talk about the thinking, literature and the wealth of knowledge that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah left behind.

Today marks the 103rd birthday of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, founder of modern Ghana and the greatest African of the millennium.

Mr. Mornah was speaking to Alhassan Sohuyini on Radio Gold’s current affairs programme, Alhaji and Alhaji Saturday.
