A Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, John Boadu says there is the likelihood for the nation to go for a runoff to finally determine the exact victor during the polls.
Explaining some facts to Oman FM, John Boadu expressed certainty that the court ruling may favour his party’s 2012 flagbearer and if the court confirms their claims, Nana Akufo-Addo will have his name registered as a “champion of democracy” in the country.
Narrowing the claims down to four issues, John Boadu said the NPP has charged the EC for overseeing some lapses in the general elections last year.
According to him, some votes were bloated during the December 7, 2012 polls and if this is found to be true, it would mean that Nana Addo should have attained 49.3% of the total votes cast while President Mahama records 49. 1% which means “we couldn’t declare a winner. Then, it suggests that we should go for a runoff.”
He also stated that there were other irregularities such as some polling stations holding elections without verification machines which are in contravention of the Constitutional Instrument (C.I) 75.
He further claimed that some polling stations had identical serial numbers and by virtue of this, if the electoral results are cancelled, the NPP Presidential candidate would have 57.55% of the total votes cast in the general elections, while the President gets 41.1%. This he believes suggests Nana Addo would clinch an outright victory.
“These are just four irregularities I have outlined. Should we confirm all these four, then you know the game is over. If even one is accepted based on the law, based on the constitution, based on the statute, based on precedence, based on all that we accepted as the normal rules for voting; then it means that the Electoral Commission, the NDC and President Mahama, declaration made was not correct.
“The issues are about eight issues. Just about four of the issues are 99% of votes in question, only one takes us to second round. The combined effect of even two makes Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo a winner. But even without anything, with this case alone; Nana has proven once more that he is champion of democracy,” he said.
