There are enough jobs to absorb graduates – PUSAG claims

The Private Universities Students’ Association of Ghana (PUSAG) says there are enough jobs in the country to absorb the number of graduates churned out yearly.

According to its, President Richard Odame, there is currently high graduate unemployment rate because graduates lack the necessary skills and creativity needed to take up the available job openings

“It will interest you to know that there are jobs in the country, but most students are not prepared to take up those jobs because they lack the skills,” he said at a forum that sought to connect, interact and build capacity of private university students on the right path to take after school.

Consequently, he said the government cannot be blamed on the high graduate unemployment, saying “We cannot always blame the government for the heightened graduate unemployment but our readiness to match up with the available opportunities”.

Mr Odame emphasized the need for graduates to look beyond white collar jobs and be creative to fit into the job market.

He urged the students to put to use all the things they are taught and learn in school and strive to be creative. This, he said, is the surest way to reduce graduate unemployment.
