The NPP is being childish – Yamin

Ashanti Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Joseph Yamin, has described the New Patriotic Party’s, F.F. Anto’s comments on the attack on the incumbent government’s Bekwai chairman, as childish.

“The Chairman of the NPP blaming the internal wrangling to be the cause of our chairman’s assault is a childish statement because we have not even started apportioning positions yet,” he said.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, F.F. Anto had in an earlier interview opined that the attack on the NDC’s Bekwai Chairman, Salisu Musah was was planned by the NDC.

“I have done my own investigations and talked to my constituency Chairman in Bekwai. I think it has to do with their own internal problems because people are fighting over positions in the party so I think, that is the cause. Do not drag NPP into this at all,” FF Anto had stated.

According to the NDC Regional Secretary however, the party had gathered intelligence two days prior, of a threat the Chairman had received from the NPP members in the area.

He insisted that the NPP had masterminded the attack of the constituency Chairman and attributed ethnic underpinnings to be the cause of the attack.

“The NPP do not understand why a Northerner of his calibre should be a Chairman of a political party in a typical Ashanti area so he has been under serious attacks all over. This is because they [NPP] believe that Salisu Musah did the trick for the NDC to gain votes from the indigenes of Bekwai”.

“After the threat was reported to us, we advised Chairman to be very careful. The next day he [Salisu] received a call from an unknown person that NDC supporters in a village at Bekwai were being attacked and as chairman, he had to go and ensure the safety of his people. Getting close to the village, he was crossed by a taxi containing three macho men who attacked him,” Mr. Yamin stated.

“After a threat on the life of the chairman and this incident occurring, who do you think we should suspect but the NPP,” he added.
