The NDC Nkoko Nketenkete policy will enhance poultry production – Poultry Farmer

Mr. Douglas Adu, a distinguished poultry farmer and the Chief Executive Officer of Dougie Farms in Dormaa Ahenkro, has embraced the NDC Nkoko Nketenkete policy as a transformative initiative for the poultry sector, contingent upon its effective implementation. He emphasized that the president must fulfill his commitment to rejuvenate the poultry industry.

He observed that the previous NDC administration, under President Mahama, undertook a project that included imposing a percentage tax on imported frozen chickens to bolster Ghana’s poultry industry. He therefore urged the president to revisit such policies to assist the poultry sector, adding that the government should support maize and soybean farmers in cultivating more to produce feed for the poultry industry.

He appealed to the Dormaa Central MCE to exercise his authority to ensure that the agricultural laboratory at the Dormaa Central Agric Directorate is fully operational to aid farmers in their laboratory requirements.

Mr. Douglas Adu implored the inhabitants of Dormaa Ahenkro and its vicinity, particularly the youth, to unite in support of the local poultry industry, as it represents the prevailing agricultural practice in the region. He encouraged all who are interested to engage with sincerity and commitment to guarantee the sustainability of poultry production in Dormaa Ahenkro and its neighboring communities. He highlighted that the industry offers a favorable remuneration structure compared to other employment sectors in Dormaa, thus urging the youth to consider the poultry industry as a viable employment option. He further advised them to acquire the necessary expertise to establish their own farms and thereby expand the poultry sector.

He ultimately revealed that the escalating egg prices are attributable to the intricate marketing frameworks through which eggs traverse before reaching the end consumer. He mentioned that the price of an egg is less than Gh¢2.00 at the farms, yet due to the profit-driven mentality of traders, prices are recalibrated to their advantage prior to reaching the final consumer.
