The Government of Ghana is set to breathe new life into the country’s local football scene, according to Sports Minister Kofi Adams. Speaking as the keynote speaker at the 2025 Ghana Football Awards, the Minister affirmed the administration’s commitment to revitalizing the domestic game under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.
“The local game must be revived,” Adams declared to an audience of football luminaries at the seventh edition of the prestigious awards ceremony. “We want to see the potential of Ghana’s football reach its highest heights. This is why, under the leadership of President Mahama, the government is committed to working with stakeholders to bring back interest in local football.”
The event celebrated the best of Ghanaian football, with Arsenal and Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey claiming the Men’s Player of the Year award for the third time. Razak Simpson stole the spotlight as a double award winner, taking home both the Goal of the Year and Home-Based Player of the Year accolades. James Kwesi Appiah was honored as Coach of the Year, recognizing his exceptional leadership.
The Minister’s remarks come at a time when Ghanaian football faces challenges in rekindling enthusiasm among fans for local leagues. His promise signals a renewed focus on strengthening grassroots structures, enhancing league competitiveness, and boosting public engagement in domestic matches.
The Ghana Football Awards served not only as a celebration of talent but also as a clarion call for collaboration to restore the glory of Ghanaian football at home and abroad.
