The Vice Presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, has expressed displeasure over President John Mahama’s call on all Northerners to vote for him because he is of their kind.
President Mahama on Saturday said “our brother Aliu Mahama was Vice President for 8 years. I was Vice President for 3 and half years. For almost 12 years, we have tasted Vice Presidency. It’s no longer exciting. It’s no longer what we want.”
According to the president, if the NPP wants votes from the northern part of the country, then they should put up Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia as their flagbearer to face-off with him.
Speaking to the issue, Dr. Bawumia said perhaps he (President Mahama) is towing that line because he has realized the NDC is losing “traction” in the Northern Region; considered as one of the strongholds of the ruling party.
Interacting with Kwami Sefa-Kayi in the studios of Peace FM, Dr. Bawumia said: “He’s gone on that line twice but that’s not him. The John I know, that is not how he behaves…It only tells me that the NDC has a problem up North. Maybe they are losing support, they are not finding it easy and they are trying to ginger it but that is not how to behave…” he added.
Dr. Bawumia is currently on his way to the Volta Region to continue with his campaign.
