“Confession of the Generalisimo…Our problems is not in knowing what we should do, but doing what we know we should do -JJ”, is an unusually long headline, but that is the Independent. The Independent says President J.J. Rawlings has said that there is no shortage of ideas in the country, nor is there lack of will on the part of many, towards positive action on the economy and that the nation’s problem, however, lies in part with the lack of discipline and failure to recognise and encourage the talented and positive-minded ones. These President Rawlings said have an impact on the implementation of policies “our problem is not in knowing what we should do but in doing what we know we should do”, He lamented. GRI

The Independent says Mr J.A. Kufuor, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 1996 December general elections, has described President Rawlings’ key-note address at the just-ended National Economic Forum, as a mini-budget saying that the speech has failed to address some vital issues. According to the Independent,Mr Kufuor said he expected to listen to a speech that will rally round the various stakeholders in the nation’s economy gathered for the forum rather than a mini-budget.
