In the accompanying story, the Independent says Mr. J. A. Kufuor’s campaign for the 2000 presidential election has received a big boost.

The paper says Nana Akufo Addo, Mr. J.H. Mensah and Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, all defeated candidates of the NPP’s presidential race, have declared their unflinching support for Mr. Kufuor, the party’s presidential candidate for the 2000 polls.

The Independent quotes an official statement from the NPP Secretariat as saying the three have come out openly to support Mr. Kufuor.

According to the paper the decision by the three was taken at a meeting between contestants of the NPP presidential candidacy and the party’s National Executive Council. The paper says two other aspirants Mr. John Kodua and Mr. Malik Alhassan Yallubu, were unable to attend the meeting. GRi
