The Ghanaian Voice reports that recently a VW LT passenger bus with registration number AS 1269 A belonging to Mr James Mensah of Nyinahin, burnt down completely at a workshop very close to the District Fire Service Office at Bibiani. Under the heading: “Bus burns while firemen look on”, the Voice said Mr Mensah sent the vehicle to the workshop for repairs but mysteriously it burst into flames as soon as it was ignited by a mechanic. According to the Voice, Mr. Mensah said what surprised him most was that the fire service department which is just a few metres away could not offer any assistance. The paper says its investigation at Bibiani showed that the district fire office lacks logistics, besides, there are only two firemen manning the office which is supposed to be staffed by a superior officer and at least ten firemen. It says the office has no fire extinguishers, let alone a fire tender to combat any fire outbreak in the district. GRI
“Kotoko in deep crisis”, is a back page headline of a sports story which says there is a ‘conflagration’ in Kumasi Asante Kotoko, the two times African champions, Mr Geroge Aduse-Poku “Georgido”, chairman of the club, is seriously under attack by supporters,accusing his administration of incompetence and are wondering why Georgido is still being allowed to hold on to the post up till now. The Voice says the polarisation of supporters and members of management of Kotoko over the years, has accounted for the dismal performance of the club in the just-ended ABC premiership and the FA cup competition – Kotoko are not participating in any of next year’s continental cup competitions.
