THE GHANAIAN VOICE

“NDC disappoints Volta Region – Ewes”, is the banner headline of a front page story in the Voice. The story quoting the people of the Volta Region, says it is only a heavenly oracle which can transform Ho and the Volta Region, According to the Voice the people are blaming themselves for voting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 1996 presidential and parliamentary elections, saying “they have failed and fooled us”. The Voice says an opinion poll its reporter conducted across the region shows how disappointed the embittered Voltarians are, adding that some said they have been reduced to the status of second rate citizens while others said they are considered as aliens. In another front page story, the Voice says in a development that would have been unimaginable 16 years ago, about 89 houses are to be returned to their rightful owners and families. Other assets are yet to be released but not without strings attached. While some are held in trust till tax and penalty of some sort are paid, others have been released with outstanding problems yet to be resolved, the Voice reports. The paper says for time now, most Ghanaians have remained very skeptical as to whether the government has actually made any releases in spite of the speculations peddled here and there, more particularly when the so-called released assets have not been published in the dailies and other newspapers.
