The elite urged to take part in district elections

Odubi (Ash), Feb. 22, GNA – People with good educational background have been urged to partake in the forthcoming district level elections, especially at the unit committee level. This is to enhance the decentralization process and promote good governance at the grass root level.

Mr E.V. Boadu, Senior Field Officer of the Asante-Akim South District office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), made the call at a forum to interact with the chiefs and people of Odubi, near Obogu in the Ashanti Region.

He said the unit committee concept thrived on transparent system, spearheaded by competent people to address issues of local concern. Mr Boadu therefore, called on the people to elect committed and competent candidates to ensure accelerated development in their communities and the district at large. He entreated the people to refrain from partisan politics and instead opt for those, who had the interest of the larger community at heart.

Nana Ofosu Ababio, Chief of Odubi, who chaired the function, said unit committees were the bedrock of good governance and called on his subjects to elect committed candidates to assist traditional rulers to develop their communities.
