The deaf cautioned against soliciting for alms

Bechem (B/A), Dec. 20, GNA 96 The Ghana National Association of the Deaf has advised members to stop soliciting for alms as the practice could tarnish the image of the Association.

Mr Ebenezer Addo-Asamoah, Administrator of the Association gave the advice at the close of the 11th annual delegates’ conference of the Association at the School for the Deaf at Bechem in Brong-Ahafo. He expressed regret that 93some few greedy individuals=94 were dragging the good name of the Association in mud by going about soliciting for alms.

=93The vision of the Association is to mobilize, fight for the rights of deaf persons and prevent obstacles that would hinder their progress=94, Mr Addo-Asamoah said.

He said the Association deeply regretted such unfortunate behaviour, which must not be encouraged.

A new eight=96member national executive was elected to steer the affairs of the Association for the next four years. They were Mr Samuel Asare, President, Mr Jonathan Amoah, Vice President, Mrs Patricia Baffoe, Treasurer and Mr Gregory Akologo, Assistant Treasurer.

Mr Godwin Amenumey retained his position as Public Relations Officer, with Mr Emmanuel Sakyi, as Programme Officer, Mr Johnson Mahama, as Secretary and Mr Daniel Oti-Panin, Assistant Secretary. Swearing the new executives into office, Mr Harris Kwaku Ayim, Tano South Social Welfare Officer, urged them to commit themselves to the development of the Association. 20 Dec. 06
