The City of Almere to assist KMA procure 1,000 waste buckets

Kumasi, Dec 8, GNA – The City of Almere in the Netherlands is to assist the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to procure 1,000 waste buckets for refuse collection in the metropolis next year. The City of Almere will also to provide the KMA with computers for the development of a software programme to synchronise data from all its departments.

Madam Patricia Appiagyei, acting Metropolitan Chief Executive, announced this in Kumasi on Wednesday.

Briefing a section of the media on the outcome of a trip by a delegation from the KMA to Almere, she said the software programme would ensure effective coordination of the assembly’s activities. Almere city is one of the cities with which the KMA has an exchange programme.

Madam Appiagyei, who is also the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, stressed that the development of the software programme would enable the assembly to institute a comprehensive database for the identification of property owners so as to tax them and said this would enhance revenue generation of the assembly.

The 11-day trip, she said enabled the KMA and the City of Almere to deliberate and share experiences on taxation, sanitation and civic registry.

Madam Appiagyei said it was high time metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies enforced byelaws on sanitation to prevent and reduce communicable diseases.
