Kumasi, Jan 15, GNA – Asuma Braimah, a 48-year-old unemployed was on Friday sentenced to four weeks imprisonment by the Ashanti New Town court in Kumasi for stealing a woollen carpet and quantities of science and mathematics textbooks.
Braimah, who claims to be a shepherd, pleaded guilty for attempting to steal and stealing.
Police Inspector Mary Baah told the court, presided over by Mrs Doreen Appiagyei that on January 1, this year, Braimah was seen with the items at Kumasi T.I. Ahmadiyya Secondary School by a watchman near the school premises.
She said the watchman confronted the accused and not convinced with his explanation, the watchman sent Braimah to the Assistant Headmaster who later identified the items as some of the school’s properties.
The Assistant Headmaster with the assistance of some patriotic residents sent the accused to the Asokwa police station. Inspector Baah said after thorough investigations, Braimah was charged with the offence.
In another development, the case involving Kwame Darkwa and Kwaku Osei, both aged 19, who are accused of defecating in the classrooms of the Achiase Methodist basic school near Asuofua in the Atwima-Nwabiagya district was adjourned to January 18.
