Baatsona (Greater Accra), 7 Dec. ’98 – Government officials, including Ministers who have signed the visitors book at the on-going Tema Exhibition and Industrial Fair (TEXPO ’98) have described the fair as impressive and congratulated the organisers for the good vision behind it. Mr I. K. Adjei-Mensah, Minister for Works and Housing and his Deputy, Mr Alex Akuffo described the fair as an “excellent project” and wished the Tema Municipal Assembly success. Mr Josiah Ampiah, administrator of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) wrote: “Congratulations. Your revenue base will certainly improve”. Mr Salathiel Amegavie, of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce described it as a very impressive start. Mr Arun Banerjee, the new Indian High Commissioner to Ghana said that it was his first visit out of Accra to an important business centre like Tema. “I wish you all success in future endeavours” he wrote in the book. Mr Harry Owusu of the Private Enterprise Foundation (PEF) described it as an “excellent initiative”. Mr Owusu, however, urged TMA to take another look at its structures and suggested the use of removable prefab structures. Most of the temporary structures at the fair are made of wood. Others, who have signed the visitors book are Mr Massimo Gazzelli, UNIDO representative in Ghana, Togo and Benin, and Nii Otu Akwettey the ninth, chief of Katamanso. The 10-day fair drew its biggest crowd on the National Farmers’ Day since it began on November 27. Most exhibitors said they recorded their biggest sales on that day.
