According to TEWU-TUC General Secretary King James Azortibah, the strike is a result of the government’s failure to address long-standing concerns despite exhausting all laid-down procedures.

The union served official notice of the strike on September 8, citing persistent delays in finalizing and signing conditions of service agreements. Repeated engagements and follow-ups with management and relevant authorities have yielded no results, leaving members frustrated.
“We have exercised patience and restraint over the matter, warning that any attempt to intimidate its members will amount to an unfair labour practice,” the union emphasized.
The strike aims to compel the government to prioritize their demands, including:
– Immediate Signing of Conditions of Service: Finalizing and signing conditions of service agreements without further delays.
– Inclusion in CPD Allowance: Including non-teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service in the payment of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) allowance.
– Resolution of Promotion Grievances: Resolving promotion-related issues in the Ghana Education Service.
The union has directed all members to stay home until further notice, warning employers against intimidating members or infringing on their rights.
