Accra, Nov. 27, GNA- Non-teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES) who are members of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), on Friday demonstrated against the delay in the payment of their salary adjustments They declared that if by the close of work on Friday no action had been taken, the union would advise itself.
The union members said they viewed the delay as a “cheat” since they had to work without being remunerated with the correct salaries for the past four years.
In a resolution presented to the Acting Director-General of the GES, the Union expressed concern about the delay in implementing their resolution dated November 9, 2004, which included, salary distortions and disparities.
Mrs Susan Kennedy, Director, Human Resource Management and Development Division of the GES, who received the resolution on behalf of the Acting Director-General, said work on the disparities, had gone far and that approval would be given soon.
She said the anomalies, which affected those in level Eight and below had been delayed because documents on the issue had to pass through the Ministry of Finance for processing and approval. Mrs Kennedy therefore urged them to be patient and said; “very soon you will hear good news”.
Mr Dan Antwi, General Secretary of TEWU, said no one should read politics in the genuine demand of the unionists because the struggle to get things done right began as far back in 1999.
He expressed the hope that action would be expedited to bring joy to those affected.
