TEWU Executive happy for Brong Ahafo

Mr Matthew Abeaba Abereniya, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Industrial Relations Officer of the Teachers Education Workers Union (TEWU) has commended the Government for including the Sunyani Polytechnic on the list of polytechnics to be converted into public universities.

He has, therefore, called for action to be expedited on the passage of the Technical University Bill to give realistic meaning to the objectives and to speed up the processes on the transformation of the polytechnics into technical universities.

Mr Abereniya told journalists in Sunyani that TEWU was in the position to support the government in policy and programmes that would improve and strengthen the educational system.

He stated that with modern facilities, the technical universities would not only facilitate national development, but would reduce unemployment, since graduates from the technical universities would be encouraged to establish their own businesses.

Mr Abereniya asked TEWU members in the various polytechnics to capitalize on the move and upgrade themselves, noting that the conversion of the polytechnics would also improve on the conditions of service of members.

He urged all stakeholders in the education sector to support the government to make this vision a reality.

The Sunyani Polytechnic is among the six to be converted into technical universities under the first phase of the programme.
