Tetteh Quarshie Hospital introduces free ambulance service

Akropong-Akuapem (E/R), May 31, GNA- The Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital has introduced free ambulance services to communities in the Akuapem districts and other catchments area, Dr Simons Kwame Sarfo, the Medical Director of the hospital, told the GNA in an interview. He said the introduction of the service stemmed from the fact that most of the deaths that occurred from road accidents in the area were the result of the unprofessional manner in which the injured were handled in transit to the hospital.

Dr Sarfo said most of the deaths could have been prevented if there were ambulances and medical professionals to handle the transportation of the accident victims to the hospital.

He attributed the poor patronage of the service to lack of good communication network in the area since people find it difficult to reach the hospital during emergencies and appealed to communication providers to improve on their services.

Dr Sarfo also urged pregnant women not to rely only on the Tetteh Quarshie Hospital but make use of other health facilities in their areas since they have all been equipped to take care of them.

He said even though maternity care involving caesarean operation was free at the hospital, the hospital charges women who came there for normal delivery.
