Accra, April 9, GNA – The people of Tetemen in the Jasikan District of the Volta Region on Saturday installed Mr Michael Wheeler, a British Philanthropist and Tourist, as Development Chief of the town.

Mr Wheeler who was given the title Nana Litela I, swore the Oath of Allegiance to Nana James Nubert Kwasi Agboso, Amankrado of Tetemen, and pledged to assist the people to initiate and implement self-help projects.

Nana Litela commended the people for honouring him, and appealed to them to unite and support him to ensure the completion of a two-kilometre road that he was rehabilitating in the community. “I am overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity to make me a citizen and development chief of Tetemen and I would continue to regard you as my people and work with you for the progress of the town,” he said.

Nana Agboso commended Nana Litela Wheeler for contributing to the development of the town, saying as a philanthropist he single-handedly financed the construction of the Teteman road with the support of the people who provided communal labour.

The Amankrado said Nana Litela has also built a library and initiated other measures to promote education in the town. Nana Agboso said: 93Nana Letela’s development effort has rekindled the communal spirit of the people of Teteman.” He called on the citizens both home and abroad to contribute to the development of the town.

The Reverend Father Moses Oduma, Priest at the local Catholic Church asked the people to pray ceaselessly; have faith in God, abstain from sin and come together for the progress of the town. He advised them to 93consider Nana Litela as a true son of Teteman and give him the necessary co-operation because of his love for you and commitment to your welfare and development.” Rev Fr Oduma stressed that Government alone could not bring development to the town, and appealed to the people to consider Nana Litela’s assistance to the town as an opportunity to initiate self-help projects. 9 April 11
