TESCON commends Government

Accra, Oct. 5 GNA – The Tertiary Education Students’ Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday commended the Government for the steps it had taken to improve the standard of living of the ordinary Ghanaian.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Baffour Osei Akoto, President of TESCON of the University of Ghana, said the pursuit had gained the Government the immense commendation both locally and internationally.

It said the success cut across all sectors, ranging from health, economy, education, sports, international relations and good governance. The statement said significant among these achievements was the implementation of the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) and the provision of capitation grant, which would enable all children of school-going age to have basic education free of charge. It said the programme confirmed the Government’s commitment to human resource development.

The statement commended the Government for the implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and the appointment of Ghana as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. It said despite the laudable programmes of the NHIS and FCUBE there were some problems associated with their implementation and urged the Government to address these problems as a matter of urgency.
