Tension resurfaces between Konkombas and Bimobas

Tamale (Northern Region) 26 Nov ’98 Tension has surfaced between Konkombas and Bimobas at Bimbago in the east Mamprusi district of the Northern region. Many people are fleeing their settlements.

The immediate cause of the tension is not known but the two ethnic groups have engaged each other in factional fighting on three occasions in the past 15 years mainly over land dispute.

Detachment of armed police from Tamale were despatched to the area on Tuesday and Wednesday to maintain law and order.

A police source said the situation is now relatively calm with the presence of armed policemen.

Meanwhile, the cause of the latest upheaval is being investigated.
