Fresh gunshots have been heard in Bawku in the Upper East region following the arrest of an Imam , Starr News has learnt.

Followers of the 70-year-old Imam reportedly clashed with the Police Saturday evening. It is unclear the basis of his arrest.

Four persons have reportedly been injured and admitted at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

According to a local reporter, Mumuni Yatinga , the Police upon seeing the irate supporters of the suspect at the station, opened fire in the air, causing massive fear and panic in the town.

He said tension has engulfed the town even though the Imam has been granted bail.

Bawku has been troubled with attacks and counter attacks from rival factions over the last decade and more.
