Tension at Kwahu as Badu Akosa is installed Chief

Tension is mounting at Kwahu-Abene in the Eastern region following the installment of Prof. Agyeman Badu Akosa as Chief of the town.

The enstoolment of the academic held three days ago has revived a protracted chieftaincy dispute in the area.

One of the factions is alleged to have called on the youth of the town to put on their “war smock” to fight.

Some Chiefs and heads of families in the Kwahu Traditional Area led by the Acting Paramount chief of Kwahuman Nana Asiedu Agyemang III have said the enstoolment of the renowned pathologist as paramount chief is illegal and uncustomary, hence cannot be accepted.

Professor Akosa who is also a senior member of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) was enstooled last Thursday after going through the necessary rites and traditions.

At a press conference at Abetifi on Friday, the agitating chiefs who were clad in red said Professor Akosa was illegally enstooled so they cannot recognize him.

The acting Kwahumanhene Nana Asiedu Agyemang III who doubles as chief of Abetifi declared war and asked all chiefs within the traditional area to rise up and defend the Kwahu stool.

The aggrieved chiefs and elders slaughtered a white sheep and poured libation to their gods demonstrating their resentfulness.

This has led to security beef up in the area as tension continue to rise. Some armed Police personnel have been deployed to the area to maintain peace.

Since the demise of late Paramount Chief of Kwahuman traditional area, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, in September 2014, Kingmakers have failed to enstool a successor due to disagreements over the rightful heir.

About 15 candidates were contesting for the stool, a situation which led to several clashes and destruction of properties.

Meanwhile, some rampaging youth of the area have allegedly stolen the ‘black stool’, one of the symbols of traditional authority at the palace.
