Ten die in road accident

Abesim (B/A), Feb. 25, GNA – Nine persons died on the spot and another at the Regional Hospital in Sunyani when a passenger bus collided with a cargo truck on the Abesim-Sunyani road in Brong-Ahafo in the early hours of Friday.

All the dead were passengers on the bus and only five have so far been identified. They are Thomas Obaa, 38, Philip Owusu, 51, Atta Yeboah, Seidu Yusif, driver of the bus and one Anaba. Four others are on admission at the Regional Hospital. They are Mr. Kofi Adu, 60, from Kokofu, Mr. Charles Ebenezer Otoo of the Ghana Education Service, Accra, Mr. Emmanuel Boris and Mr. Sebastian Frimpong, 27, of the Nsoatreman Rural Bank in Sunyani.

Briefing newsmen at Sunyani, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr. Cosmos Afena Damoah, in-charge of the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit confirmed that the bus with registration number AS 5069 T and was driving towards Sunyani from Kumasi collided with the cargo truck with registration number GR 5034 N, which was loaded with sawn wood. ASP Damoah said the driver of the truck, who could not be traced, was yet to report the accident to the police and appealed to him or the owner of the vehicle to do so to help the police in investigations.

Meanwhile Dr. Mohammed Owusu-Ansah, medical officer in-charge of the emergency ward of the Hospital said the victims on admission were responding to treatment.
