Tema to host Regional May Day Parade

The Tema District Council of Labour (TDCL), of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (GTUC), would on Tuesday May 1, host this year’s Greater-Accra Regional May Day Parade at the Oninku Park near the Tema Post Office at Community One.

Mr. Wilson Agana, Chairman of the TDCL who announced this at a general meeting on Tuesday, said the parade would be addressed by Mr. John Dramani Mahama, Vice President.

Mr. Agana admonished workers not to use the May Day placards to insult leadership of the government as well as other prominent people in the country.

He said placards must be used to champion the cause of industrial and work-related issues that needed to be addressed by authorities.

He further urged employees who would be representing their various companies and unions at this year’s May Day celebration, to comport themselves during the programme, to ensure a successful celebration.

He regretted that, some workers engaged in acts of indiscipline during previous parades, instead of observing the day with sober reflection and airing their grievances.

Meanwhile, the National May Day Parade would be held in Sunyani, the Brong-Ahafo Regional capital on the theme: “Election 2012: The Role of Workers in Securing a Peaceful and Fair Election.”**
