Tema residents want Ebola Center relocated

Residents of Tema want the newly built Ebola Treatment Center properly put in place or relocated as they are not comfortable with its current state, a Member of Parliament of Tema has said.

Kofi Brako, MP for Tema Central Constituency, said many constituents have come to him to express panic over the siting of the Center in Tema.

“Why are [they] bringing this whole thing here?” Mr Brako quotes some of the residents as asking.

He made these known to TV3’s Josephine Frempong last week.

Mr Brako observed that even where the health professionals in the fight against the deadly virus will be has not been clearly designated.

“The place is not fenced. It is not walled and, psychologically, when some people see it, they come back to me and they panic,” the MP said.

But a member of the Ebola-trained team stationed in Tema, Dr Samuel Kaba, said there is no cause for alarm as the Center’s location will not interfere with normal hospital activities.

“The treatment center is completely separate from the Hospital. It is behind the morgue.”

The Tema Treatment Center is one of the three Ebola centers set up in readiness of an outbreak of the disease in Ghana.

The other two are under construction in Kumasi and Tamale.

So far, there has not been any recorded case in the country.
