Tema records seemingly low turnout at voter registration

Tema, May 5, GNA – Voter registration centres in Tema on Friday recorded a low turnout on the first day of the voter registration exercise.

The exercise, which started on May 5-15 exercise was to enable citizens of 18 years and above, who did not register in previous exercises to do so.

The Ghana News Agency found that only three people had registered as of 1300 hours at Ashiboi electoral area. At Aggrey Road No. 2 JSS polling station in the Kassajan electoral area, 10 people had registered while 15 people were recorded at the Kwesi Plange electoral area at the time.

The Tema Community One polling centre recorded the highest registration of 21 people at the time of the GNA visit. Officers in charge of the various electoral areas held that the seemingly low turnout was due to inadequate publicity on the exercise. They however, believed that turnout will improve over the weekend.
