Tema Police to wage war on criminals

Tema, Feb. 1, GNA – The Acting Tema Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Daniel Laryea Odai, on Monday called on police officers in the Tema division to establish good rapport with the civilian society in order to enjoy their co-operation towards crime prevention.

Speaking at the annual WASSA get together organised for the personnel at Tema, he reminded them that forging cordial relations with the community would build confidence in them to expose the criminals among them.

ACP Odai said this year, the Tema Police Command would focus on crime prevention instead of crime detection to rid the area of criminals.

Criminals, he said, should not be allowed to tarnish the image of the police or undermine public confidence in them and other security agencies.

“Tema Region should be made too hot for all manner of criminals, be they fraudsters, tax evaders, people diverting goods from the port, robbers and pick-pockets”.

ACP Odai commended the police officers for exhibiting a high sense of duty during the 2004 Presidential and Parliamentary polls, which have won international admiration and urged them to continue to work in the same spirit of patriotism to chalk more successes. Mrs Agnes Sikanartey, former Tema Police Commander appealed to the personnel to continue to work in unity to support the administration to clamp down on criminals.

Mr Paul Tamakloe, Tema Municipal Fire Officer, appealed to the Police to always respond promptly to invitation to fire outbreak sites to prevent people from looting at the disaster site. Twelve officers were awarded certificates for their commitment to duty with Mr Godwin David Kwakye of the Criminal Investigation Department emerging the overall best worker. 01 Feb. 05
