Tema police assures public of safety

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Maxwell Atingane, Tema Regional Police Commander, has assured residents of the city that security personnel would be visible, especially in the identified flash points, before and after the Supreme Court ruling.

ACP Atingane said the Police had deployed 950 personnel to the Greater Accra Region, and stand-by teams would also be available to move in to reinforce personnel on the ground if that became necessary.

He gave the assurance in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday after a two-hour walk organized by the Ghana United Nations Association (GUNA) in collaboration with the Tema Police Command.

The walk, in which GUNA members, police personnel, immigration officers and other stakeholders participated, took off at about 0600 hours from the forecourt of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), through the principal streets of Tema Community One, and ended at the Tema Sports Stadium at about 0800 hours.

ACP Atingane said the police were prepared to maintain peace in the Tema Region, and also deal with those who would want to foment trouble after the verdict of the Supreme Court.

He, therefore, cautioned residents of Tema and its surroundings not to breach the law, but corporate with the police to maintain the peace.

Mr Joseph Donkor, National Coordinator of GUNA, said it was their aim to promote peace and augment the good work of the police and other security agencies in the country.
