Tema outdoors new Chief Imam

Tema, Oct. 25, GNA – Alhaji Sulley Iddrisu-Sika, an 80-year old Muslim leader, was on Sunday outdoored as the new Chief Imam of the Tema Metropolis. He succeeds Alhaji Abdul Samad Salifu, the 80-year-old immediate past Metro Chief Imam, who died on August 27. Muslims from all walks of life attended the colourful and impressive ceremony, which took place at the forecourt of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.

Speaking at the function, Alhaji Mohammad Mumuni, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, commended the Muslim leadership in the Metropolis for the peaceful manner in which they selected and installed the new Chief Imam.

Alhaji Mumuni reminded Ghanaians, especially Muslim parents, of the need to educate their children, since the acquisition of knowledge held the key to economic emancipation and prosperity. He urged the new Chief Imam to always seek Allah’s guidance and direction in the discharge of his duties.

Sheikh Abdul Majid, Imam at the Naval Command stressed the need for Muslims to unite, reminding them that in unity lied strength. Mr Robert Kempes Papa Nii Ofosuware, Metropolitan Chief Executive asked Muslims to live in peace with one another. Mr Ofosuware pointed out that the nation could not witness any meaningful development, if the citizenry were at loggerheads with one another.

Alhaji Iddrisu-Sika appealed to Muslims to portray the true virtues of Islam, adding: “Islam means peace, and in peace there is unity, and in unity there is strength, and in strength there is development.” He prayed for Almighty Allah’s blessings, mercy and grace for the nation, and prosperity for Ghanaians.

Alhaji Sani Iddi, Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, launched the Islamic Development Fund, a brainchild of the Metro Chief Imam, aimed at initiating development programmes to better the lot of Muslims. 25 Oct. 09
