Tema Newtown Catholic Church builds GH¢200,000 edifice

Tema Newtown, July 14, GNA- The Most Reverend Gabriel Charles Palma- Buckle, Accra Catholic Metropolitan Archbishop at the weekend, dedicated an ultra-modern church building of the St Peters Catholic Church at Tema Newtown, constructed at the cost of GH¢200,000. The church founded in 1967 was an outstation of Our Lady of Mercy (OLAM) Parish at Community Two. With an initial membership of 10, the congregation now stands at 700.

Land for the project was provided by the Tema Traditional Council. Archbishop Palma-Buckle, who consecrated the building amidst funfair by the congregation, paid tribute to the founding fathers for their faith and commitment to God.

He said it was gratifying to note that the seeds sown four decades ago, “have today borne such an abundance of fruits as witnessed by this magnificent building and by your lively faith”, he said.

Archbishop Palma-Buckle called on Christians to let their hearts remain the faithful temples of God and lead sanctified lives. The Very Rev. Father Gabriel Liashiedzi, Parish Priest of OLAM Catholic Church, expressed the hope that members of the St Peters Church would rededicate their lives and talents to the glory and honour of God. Mr Clemence Abodakpi, Chairman of the Parish Pastoral Council of St Peters’ Catholic Church, lauded Archbishop Emeritus Dominic Kodwo, the Parish Priest, the Parish Pastoral Council and the congregation for their dedication and sacrifices towards the successful completion of the project. 14 July 09
