Prampram, May 5, GNA – The Tema Diocese of the Methodist Church on Thursday held its 8th Annual Synod at Prampram in the Dangme West District with a call on members to work towards achieving the Church’s vision of doubling its membership within the next five years. Speaking on: “What Christian Mission is about”, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Most Reverend Robert Aboagye Mensah, said church members had the responsibility to evangelise to win more souls into their fold.
He said the Church had a mission of bearing testimonies, providing and transform the society at large and cease to be inward looking in the performance of its functions.
The Presiding Bishop recalled for instance the mission of the Methodist Church, which during its 170 years had had great impact on the nation in areas of evangelism, education, health as well as the development of human resource for leadership positions.
The Presiding Bishop of the Tema Diocese, Rt. Rev. Samuel Achamfuo Yeboah in an address advised leaders and stewards in the various Circuits of the Church to comply with the Church’s rule on marriage to organise mass weddings to reduce cost.
He also urged Societies in the Diocese to contribute to the Methodist Education Trust Fund, a vision, which had been agreed upon by members to take up the educational facilities of the Church. He advised on the need for members to send their children to school to ensure that they had a brighter future whiles Societies and Circuits exercised the culture of maintenance for school structures to last long. Fraternal greetings from the various Diocese of the Church in the country as well as from the Anglican Church expressed the hope that members after the synod would return to their societies as rededicated ambassadors of Christ.
The Mankralo of the Prampram Traditional Council, Nene Atsure Benta the Third, asked the Church to go beyond winning souls and consider instituting scholarship scheme to sponsor needy parents and their children’s education.
He also appealed to the Church to look beyond our traditional role to help instil discipline in the youth to help move the nation forward.
