Tema, Nov. 12, GNA – Management of the Tema General Hospital (TGH) on Friday, appealed to corporate organisations operating in Tema to support the hospital to provide quality services to the community. Dr (Mrs) Charity Sarpong, Medical Superintend of the TGH, who was receiving a brand new ambulance worth 400 million cedis presented to the hospital by the Tema Lube Oil Company (TLOC), said for instance the hospital needs a fence-wall around it to provide security for both the staff and patients within the hospital.
The Medical Superintendent was grateful to the TLOC for readily responding to its request for assistance and recounted that, in 2001 and 2002 it donated medical equipment such as ECG machine and patient monitors to the hospital.
By this, the TLOC, which produces varieties of old products has demonstrated its preparedness to foster partnership with the hospital in the provision of health care to the community. She therefore, requested the Tema Municipal Assembly to give the company the due recognition.
Mr Richard Adu Poku, member of the TLOC board of directors, who made the presentation noted that, the vital and numerous roles played by the hospital such as catering for the sick as well as industrial and motor accident victims is well appreciated, hence, the continuous donations to the hospital to enable the staff provide efficient and quality service to the community.
He said in addition, the company would provide maintenance work on the ambulance, take care of the insurance premium for three years and train two drivers, who would take charge of it.
Mr Poku hoped this would go a long way to enhance health delivery and prayed that the staff takes good care of it to prolong its lifespan. Mr Samuel Evans Ashong Narh, Tema Municipal Chief Executive advised the drivers to use the ambulance for the purpose intended and not to carry passengers for fares.
The chief of Tema, Nii Adjei Kraku II, who chaired the function, hoped the ambulance would not be used as hearse but to convey patients in critical conditions.
