Nii Armarh Somponu II, Nii Shipi of Tema, has charged authorities in-charge of ensuring safety in the country to see last Saturday’s fire outbreak at the BBC Industries Company (Ghana) Limited as a wake-up call to enforce safety regulations at workplaces.
The Lebanese-owned company, located at the Tema Industrial Area near the Mankoadze Round-about that manufactures Leyland/Laylac and Gold Acrylic Paints, as well as other building materials and production of bottled/sachet water, was razed down by fire on Saturday evening.
Nii Somponu, who accompanied Nii Adjei Kraku II, Tema Mantse on a visit to the company on Monday, said the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and other organizations in-charge of ensuring safety must re-assess fire safety measures at the work place.
He noted that Tema being an industrial hub must have proper fire measures to ensure safety within the Metropolis.
Nii Krakue sympathized with management of the company for the loss of property running into several millions of cedis, during the outbreak.
Madam Amal Odaymat, Administrative Manager of BBC Industries Company, thanked the Tema Mantse and his entourage for sympathizing with them.
Madam Odaymat said it was unfortunate that due to the trauma of the fire incident, she was not in a position to give any credible information to the media stating however that the company had nothing to hide to the public.
She said the company’s concern was its valued customers, because they deserved to know some information about the incident.
Meanwhile, some workers of the company were seen busily clearing white chemicals from some containers at the premises, while smoke was still emanating from some packed chemical containers which had been burnt.
Two fire tenders and one water tanker belonging to the GNFS, as well as a handful of personnel from the Fire Service were still at the premises trying to bring the fire under total control.
