Tema East NDC elects parliamentary candidate

Tema, Dec 3, GNA- The Tema East constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Saturday held its primaries to elect Mr Robert Kempes Ofosu-Ware as its parliamentary candidate for the 2008 parliamentary election. The 45-year-old Accounts Officer of the Electricity Company of Ghana, polled 119 votes to beat Mrs Emelia Kai Adjei, an educationist, Mr Albert Antwi Nuamah, an administrator and Mr Joseph Djane Kotey, an industrialist who polled 90, 36 and 19 votes respectively. A total of 265 delegates cast their votes but one ballot was rejected in the election that was conducted by officials of the National Electoral Commission.

The defeated contestants pledged to support Mr Ofosu-Ware to enable the party wrest the seat from the New Patriotic Party. Mr. Ofosu-Ware called on party activists to intensify their campaigns to win more supporters for the NDC to enable the party win the 2008 Election. Mr. Baba Jamal, NDC Deputy General Secretary, said the party was strictly adhering to democratic principles, which called for transparency.

He warned that any one, irrespective of his or her party affiliation who becomes a stumbling block in the way of the party “would be crushed and urged party members to conduct clean campaigns. Mr. Mustapha Darko, the constituency chairman called on the members to remain united to prevent infiltration of the ranks and to let party interest override their personal ambitious. 3 Dec. 07
