Tema, Jan 07, GNA — The executives of the Tema East constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have denied that 30 members of the constituency have defected to another party.
A statement signed by the constituency organizer, Mr. Jameen Sika, said the news item on defection carried by the Daily Guide newspaper on January 03 ”is purported to discredit the party.”
It said Mr Steven Adjei, whom the story was sourced to, “is not a member of any youth wing of the NDC and has no hold whatsoever as he claims in the party constituency”.
“We are stating categorically that the allegation that 30 members of the party are considering quitting and joining an imploding one is unfounded and not true”.
The statement described the news item as an attempt to sabotage the constituency’s re-organizational agenda to disorganize the youth who form the base of the party and are poised to working assiduously for the 2008 presidential and parliamentary elections.
It said ever since Mr Adjei contested the post of constituency organizer and lost he has resorted to all means to discredit the party and challenged him to come out with the names of those he claim are considering defecting to another party.
Mr Sika urged all activists of the party in the constituency to remain calm in the face of provocation and not to be disillusioned but rather treat the story with contempt.
He said such uncomplimentary statements should rather spur them on to intensify their organizational work to bring more people into their fold.
