Tema DVLA to introduce probation plates for new drives

The Tema Regional Office of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) will in the first quarter of this year, issue probation plates (P-Plate) to new drivers before the issuance of permanent licenses.

Alhaji Iddrisu Huseini, Tema Regional Licensing Officer, told the GNA in an interview that the P-Plate would be issued with the temporal license after a driver had passed all the necessary driving examination and practical tests.

He said the P-Plate, which would be given out at a cost of GH¢ 48.00, would help protect new drivers on the road, as most of them have problems driving professionally and confidently, after passing the examination and the practical tests.

He said a person who got involved in a minor accident during the six month probation period, would have the issuance of his permanent license delayed. Those engaged in major accidents during the period would be required to go for re-training and re-testing before receiving the license, the Tema Regional Licensing Officer added.

Alhaji Huseini said every first applicant on a particular class of license would be required to purchase and use the P-Plate.
