Manhean, Nov 28, GNA – The Chief of Tema, Nii Adjei Kraku the II, has suggested to the government to place a ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages at all drinking bars and public places on December 7 to enable voters exercise their franchise systematically without any hitch. He said there is the tendency that some people would take in alcohol just to misbehave at the polling centres to disrupt the process, if bars were opened and advocated their closure until the following day. He made the call when Reverend Samuel K. Mensah called at his palace to introduce himself as the new Minister for Tema Community two District of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana as well as the resident Minister of the Prince of Peace Church.
To ensure the continued peace in the country after the election, Nii Kraku implored churches to educate their congregation to exhibit good conduct at the polling centres. The Chief said as religious leaders normally meet with larger group of the populace in their churches they have the onerous responsibility to impress on their congregation to comport themselves to avoid the use of remarks that could inflame passions.
Turning to the church, Nii Kraku urged the church leaders to respect the laws of the traditional Council especially during the ban on drumming to ensure peaceful co-existence. Rev Mensah called for the support for the traditional council for a harmonious stay in the metropolis. 28 Nov. 08
