TEGLU – 1-District-1-Factory policy’ll fail unless…

The One-District-One-Factory policy to be executed by the Akufo-Addo-led adminsitration will fail unless the government makes it a priority to deal with persons who want to take undue advantage of the system for their personal gains, Abraham Koomson, the General Secretary of the Textile, Garment and Leather Employees Union, has said.

The president, ahead of the December 7, 2016 elections, promised to establish in each district one factory as a way of creating more jobs to ease the unemployment situation in the country. But Mr Koomson is of the view that until the government deals with persons involved in sabotaging local businesses, the otherwise good plan will be a mirage.

According to him, there are so many characters who, for their personal gain, are frustrating the system to make doing business in Ghana unfriendly, particularly in the textile industry, hence the need for the government to act.

Speaking on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Wednesday January 11, Mr Koomson said: “I am deeply involved in working to ensure that such characters who are making things difficult in this country are dealt with. The system in Ghana must be purged, otherwise the One-District-One-Factory programme will not work.

“You are now going to install new machines, you will put up new buildings, but before someone will invest his money, the person will want to be sure that his money will not go waste. He would want to make sure that there are policies that will help his work.

“If they (government) are going to encourage the private sector, then they should know that no private businessman will spend his money to establish his business and sit back and look at it to go waste and so they have a lot of things to do as far as this promise is concerned.”
