Teenager remanded in prison custody for defilement

Tepa-Ashanti, June 08, GNA – Tepa Circuit court on Wednesday remanded Kwadwo Emmanuel, an 18-year-old unemployed resident at Abesewa in the Ahafo-Ano South district in prison custody for defiling and impregnating a 14-year-old primary six pupil. Emmanuel was also charged with dishonestly receiving two million cedis stolen by the pupil.

He pleaded guilty to both counts and would re-appear on Wednesday, June 14 for sentence.

Police Inspector Francis Asante, prosecuting told the court presided over by Mr Justice S.K.B. Alomatu that the accused, victim and complainant Mr Anthony Essel, father of the victim all reside at Abesewa.

He said in February this year, Emmanuel defiled the victim and impregnated her.

Police Inspector Asante told the court that when the accused needed money, he asked the victim for assistance and she stole two million cedis belonging to her father and gave it to the accused. The presiding judge advised parents of the victim to take care of her and ensured she did not attempt to abort the pregnancy. 08 June 06
